Some of our Science Experiments and Investigations

In the Senior Room we have been looking closely at ‘Rocks’. We worked in groups to examine some rock samples (Sandstone, Limestone, Slate etc.) We investigated the texture and appearance of the rocks as well as testing each rock sample for hardness using a coin, nail and sandpaper. We then reported our findings back to the class.

In small groups, we also made a model of our lungs using a bottle, a straw, a balloon, a plastic bag and modelling clay. The bottle represented the chest cavity, the straw represented the bronchi, the balloon represented the lungs and the bottle represented the diaphragm. We learned that when our diaphragm contracts, it moves downwards as our lungs inflate and when the diaphragm relaxes, it moves upwards as our lungs deflate.
